Where to buy birthday cakes for dogs in Singapore? Do you have this question in mind? Are you planning to get one birthday cake for your dog? Buying birthday cakes for dogs are getting more and more popular in Singapore. I’m happy to see more and more dog’s owner giving in more love and time for their little fur friends.

Six years ago, there was only one or two pet/dog shops or doggie’s cafe willing to do birthday cakes for dogs, as the market was not ready that time. Over the past 6 years, i’m seeing more people are targeting dog businesses, which make dog owner in Singapore much more convenient now. So dogs in Singapore are getting more luckier now!

Great news, to help all dogs lover in Singapore to find the list of dog cafes or online dog shops that sell birthday cakes for dogs in Singapore, I did the homework for YOU!

Here’s the list :

The Barkery Singapore Store – Simple birthday cake designs for dogs?

They do not have a lot of birthday cake designs for dogs. But it’s OK! Although their birthday cakes for dogs are simple designs because…… i think they cater for another group of dog’s owners – dog’s owners looking for simple, cheaper and smaller “meat” birthday cakes for their dogs. I think that is good enough as I hate complicated designs. And one more thing…. out of the 5 cakes i got for my Happy Boy, he love “The Barkery Singapore Store” birthday cake the MOST! One last important thing that I like about The Barkery Singapore Store, their service is excellent, I made special request for my dog as Happy Boy has food allergies, they did not turn down my special request where as some places turn down special request as it’s too troublesome.

Good Point – Services, flexible with request, simple designs but looks cool!

US Doggie Bakery – Fancy birthday cakes designs for dogs?

They are among the first batch that start the dog’s bakery business. My dog, Happy’s Boy, 1st, 2nd and 3rd birthday, i ordered the cakes from them. US Doggie Bakery not only have dog’s cakes, they have all sort of dog’s pie, cookies, muffins and dog’s birthday party pack! As more strong competitors are coming in, I notice that US Doggie Bakery has increase their dog’s birthday cake design. YEAH! This is GREAT as we love taking photo right? =) I realised one thing, although they have beautiful birthday cakes for dogs, but always remember, dogs are carnivore, so from my experience, i realised dogs prefer cakes with meat rather than flavouring cakes like, banana cakes, pandan cakes, etc…… So do take note when choosing cakes.

Cobam Dog Bakery – 3D Birthday Cake designs for dogs

Looking for 3D Birthday Cake designs for dogs? I might consider trying Cobam Dog Bakery this year for Happy Boy’s 6th Birthday, making him a 3D birthday cake for dog!

Vaccinations protect dogs from fatal diseases

Vaccinations protect dogs from fatal diseases

Vaccinations protect dogs from fatal diseases – Do you believe? Does vaccinations really protect your dog from diseases and virus such as canine distemper?

Regular vaccinations can protect the dogs against potential contagious and fatal diseases.

why-should-we-vaccinate-our-dogsArticle taken from Straits Times July 2013.

 It could be example:

  1. Canine Parvovirus
    • Through ingestion of faecal particles containing the virus. This often occurs by accident, e.g. in multi-dog households, through sharing of food, water and living space.
    • Read recent case happed in SPCA 2012
  2. Canine Distemper Virus
  3. Infectious Canine Hepatitis
    • This virus is spread through direct contact with an infected dog’s body fluids including nasal discharge and urine.
    • Read more about this
  4. Kennel Cough (Parainfluenza, Bordetella)
  5. Leptospira (The rat is the main carrier of the disease, Rat urine contains toxic and deathly substances)

Why we should NOT vaccinate our dogs? Most commonly heard reasons: Inorder to keep clients coming in and bring in business for the vets. Over vaccinated will cause serious harm to the immune systems and vaccines can cause cancer.

So… Who to believe??

I asked my vet this question. As I mentioned before, I fully trust my vet, she has no reason to hide anything from me i believe. WHY?? For every questions I asked, she will tell me the reason or why she think that way.

I’m a person who ask a lot of WHY?? When I still don’t understand or i smell something fishy, I will continue ask until I’m satified with the answer.

So back to the question, why should we vaccinate our dogs?

I would think depend on:

  1. Personal thinking
    • How much you trust the internet?
    • How much you trust your vet?
  2. Where you stay and where is your dog’s regular area
    • Big Houses?
    • Apartment?
    • Backyard?
  3. Does your dog go for walk
    • Hiking?
    • Open park?
    • Void deck?
    • Just corridor?
    • Totally indoor?
  4. Does your dog social with other dogs, cats, animals (http://thescoopblog.dallasnews.com/2013/02/distemper_outbreak.html) or even RATS.
  5. Does your dog go grooming
    • Sharing water?
    • Sharing cage?

Some or most of the diseases are transmitted through contact with respiratory secretions. Contacting with fecal material and the urine of infected dogs or things they have contaminated can also cause infection.

With the 5 points mention above, have you thought of… what if just ONE dog is contacted with contagious diseases, and your dog happen to step on the urine of the affected dog without any of your knowledge. The dog licked its PAW, that’s it!

The risk is there if you don’t vaccinate your dogs… think about it seriously…

Why we should NOT vaccinate our dogs? In order to keep clients coming in and bringing in businesses for the vets? I don’t believe in this reason. The annual vaccinations are not very expensive. I’m sure if a vet tells the owner, spend your money on other check-up rather than vaccinations, the owner will do that! So it’s not about money definitely, it’s whether should we risk the dog to a contagious diseases.

Over vaccinated will cause serious harm to the immune systems? There is “no evidence [of widespread harm].” Over vaccinated could have a few meanings depend on how you interpret, example: amount injected? Vaccinations depend on weight and age, so the widespread of “over vaccinated” could means other meaning too… =)

Vaccines can cause cancer? Oh yes, I read about this. It’s more about cats relating to cancer or tumors forming in the area between the shoulders, where cats are vaccinated. http://pets.webmd.com/features/pet_vaccination

So after listened to my vet explanations and also do some read up, I think I should NOT risk my dog to any potential diseases. Dogs love to “SMELL” whenever they go for walk, grooming, dog park, dog group meet up, so I think continuing annual vaccinations is a MUST.

Vaccinated dogs develop less severe illness and are less likely to spread the virus to other dogs. The vaccine is recommended for dogs who are “at risk”. Dogs that frequently interact with other dogs, participate in activities with other dogs or are boarded are considered at risk and can benefit from vaccinations. Dogs that benefit from the kennel cough vaccine (Bordetella/parainfluenza) vaccine will also benefit from the canine influenza vaccine.

It’s up to you to believe. Good luck to your decision.

Dogs Love Sleeping On Pillow

Dogs love sleeping on pillow, do you agree?

I did a google search on why dogs love sleeping on pillow and I noticed that many dog’s owners actually took pictures of how their dog love sleeping on their pillow.

It’s pretty interesting to see that. But I still think it is NOT RIGHT for dogs to sleep on our pillow!

Why do dogs like to sleep on our bed or pillow or anything that has our “smell”? HAHA! I found a link which explains this. I think mainly is companionship and our bed is comfortable!

Because dogs live in packs, and want to sleep in the same area that the pack leader sleeps. This is because your dog will want to find the place which smells like the pack leader, which is you, to relieve anxiety so they don’t feel alone. Most often that will be your bed, pillow, or blanket.

I happened to find out that my dog actually slept on my pillow when I’m away, I tried to put my pillow high up so that he could not reach it.

Unable to reach my pillow, he has another alternative, that is… sleeping on my blanket! OMG! So in the end, I also put my blanket high up so that he is unable to reach it too!

Then slowly, I noticed that he likes to fold up the corner of his bed so that he can sleep on it like a pillow.

I also have seen my dog putting his head on the cushion or even on his toys. Therefore, I guess my dog needs a pillow!

I went shopping around, and one day, I happened to see a small soft pillow which i think is for kids, i bought it back for my dog. I put it on his bed, and that night, he know that’s the pillow for him.

From all the pictures, you can see that my dog love lying on the pillow! He sleep with it, he play with it and he dream with it! HAHAHA!!

So if your dog love your pillow, it’s time to shop for a pillow for him or her! You will be surprise, your dog actually love it! =)

Of course, you can handmade one for your dogs too. It’s not that hard to do it, but a pillow that just cost SGD $2, I think shouldn’t waste effort and energy on it too much. Just go get one!

Dogs Birthday Cakes?

Dogs birthday cakes?

Do you celebrate Your dog’s birthday with dogs birthday cakes? I think you should. Do you celebrate your family and friends’ birthday? If yes, why not celebrate your doggie’s birthday too?! It’s not expensive now… 4 years ago, I had a hard time looking for a people doing dogs birthday cakes and they were really expensive! But now, there are more demand, prices drop a little too. Ordering of dogs birthday cakes usually come with delivery, so no worries about transportation.

Dogs birthday cakes - Happy's Birthday

This year August, my Happy Boy will be turning 5 year old. I’m thinking to get him a dog cake too or maybe I should bake the cake myself with all his favourite food. Because he has allergic problem towards some ingredients like carrot, so getting a cake without certain ingredients maybe difficult. Let’s see…

Dogs birthday cakes usually come in 300g, 500g and 1KG. So I usually share the cake out with Happy Boy’s friends. I will keep 1/3 or 1/4 portion of it, and that could keep about 3 days for my dog as snacks.

Believe me, you will be happy to see their expression full of excitement when you show them the cake. But of course, you have to know your dog well. Meaning… know what is your dog’s favourite food and what your dog hate most is important when you look for dogs birthday cakes.

Dogs birthday cakes - miko birthday Thanks Miko for sharing out her cute photo.

Dogs Birthday Cakes are cakes specially baked / made for dogs. DO NOT get a human cake for your dog. Dogs Birthday Cakes is just a few dollar difference from human birthday cakes, although you can save $5-$10 at that moment, but maybe next day, you will have to bring your dog to visit your dear expensive veterinarian! =)
